About Vertcoin (VTC) mining

Vertcoin (ticker VTC) is one of the longest-running ASIC-resistant coins in crypto — a 2014 fair-launch project that calls itself "The People's Coin" because it is built to stay mineable on ordinary graphics cards. This guide walks you through mining Vertcoin step by step: what Verthash is, which GPUs work, how to set up a wallet and miner, and how to check whether it's worth it at your power price.

Vertcoin launched in January 2014 with no premine and no ICO, and its defining mission has never changed: keep mining decentralized by staying ASIC-resistant. When ASICs or rental attacks threatened earlier algorithms, the project hard-forked — through Lyra2RE, Lyra2REv2 and Lyra2REv3 — before settling on its own purpose-built algorithm, Verthash, in early 2021.

Verthash is an I/O-bound algorithm: instead of raw compute, it hammers random reads against a ~1.2 GB data file (verthash.dat) that must sit in GPU memory. That makes the work cheap on power and unfriendly to ASICs. The practical upshot: power-efficient mid-range GPUs are competitive, electricity cost matters more than raw speed, and cards as old as the RX 470 / GTX 1060 class can still participate.

How do I start mining VTC on this pool?

What does "Maturing" mean on a block?

When the pool finds a block, the network requires a number of confirmations before that block's reward can be spent — during that window the block shows as Maturing and its reward is an estimate. Once confirmed, the exact on-chain reward appears and is credited to miners. If a block is orphaned by the network it pays nothing, which is normal across all pools.

How are rewards shared (what is PPLNS)?

This pool uses PPLNS (Pay Per Last N Shares): when a block is found, its reward is split across the shares submitted in the recent window, proportional to your contribution. PPLNS rewards loyal miners and smooths out luck — you earn from every block the pool finds while you are mining, even with a small rig.

When do I get paid?

Earnings are credited to your balance after each block confirms. Once your balance reaches the minimum payout of 0.1 VTC, the pool sends coins to your wallet address automatically — payouts are on-chain transactions you can verify in any explorer. What is the pool fee?

The pool fee is 0.0%. There are no hidden costs — block rewards and transaction fees are distributed to miners via PPLNS.

Why does the dashboard hashrate differ from my miner?

The dashboard shows your effective hashrate, calculated from the shares your rig actually submits, averaged over roughly the last 10 minutes. Your miner reports raw device speed. The two converge over time — short dips and spikes are normal, especially right after connecting.
